4 Moves, Gee and Cuddy

do with something less when the real thing is not available. […] Mushfake Discourse means partial acquisition coupled with meta-knowledge and strategies to make do.” (Gee, 13) I agree with Gee’s idea here because the idea of using outside and or past information has always proven to make you more successful. When you are trying to join a new secondary Discourse, you use your past knowledge from trying to join different groups of people to improve on how you act.  However, I disagree with Gee when he says “ However someone cannot engage in a Discourse in a less than fully fluently manner. You are either in it or you’re not.” (9)I disagree with Gee’s idea because, if this were true there would be no secondary Discourses or places to learn and engage in a Discourse at the same time. For example, college’s people are learning and being part of their Discourse even though they are not yet masters.

” However, someone cannot engage in a Discourse in a less than fully fluently manner. You are either in it or you’re not.” (9) I agree that you need to engage in Discourses in a fluent manner, however, I do not believe you have to be fully fluent, that you can be new and still fully participate in the Discourse.

I agree with Cuddy because of her scientific proof of her experiment. We decided to bring people into the lab and run a little experiment and these people adopted, for two minutes, either high-power poses or low-power poses,[…]This one has been dubbed the “Wonder Woman” by the media.” (Cuddy 10:20) I agree with Cuddy’s idea of power poses improving one’s ability to be able to do well in stressful situations. This is backed by research. As well as shows the deeper issue that people do not carry enough confidence which leads to fewer people joining a new Discourse. Now I disagree with “I’m hoping that if you learn to tweak this little bit, it could significantly change the way your life unfolds.” (.047) I disagree with Cuddy’s idea here because you can’t change your whole life just by holding yourself a different way or pretending to fake you know something to success. You must also change your mindset, which is what Cuddy is missing from her argument.

Now I agree with Cuddy for the most part, “I’m hoping that if you learn to tweak this little bit, it could significantly change the way your life unfolds.” (.047) I agree that you need to change your body language so that it is open and confident for people to, think you can join a new Discourse, however, I disagree that it will change your life.

My Stance Gee Cuddy
Agree do with something less when the real thing is not available. […] Mushfake Discourse means partial acquisition coupled with meta-knowledge and strategies to make do.” (Gee, 13)

I agree with Gee’s idea here because the idea of using outside and or past information has always proven to make you more successful. When you are trying to join a new secondary Discourse, you use your past knowledge from trying to join different groups of people to improve on how you act.

I think the following template can help me express where I stand in relation to Gee:

“ Those unfamiliar with this school of thought may be interested to know that it basically boils down to…” ( They say I say, 60)

We decided to bring people into the lab and run a little experiment and these people adopted, for two minutes, either high-power poses or low-power poses,[…]This one has been dubbed the “Wonder Woman” by the media.” (Cuddy 10:20)

I agree with Cuddy’s idea of power poses improving one’s ability to be able to do well in stressful situations. This is backed by research. As well as shows the deeper issue that people do not carry enough confidence which leads to fewer people joining a new Discourse.

“ X’s theory of ____ is extremely useful because it sheds light on the difficult problem of___” ( They say I say, 60)

Disagree “ However someone cannot engage in a Discourse in a less than fully fluently manner. You are either in it or you’re not.” (9)

I disagree with Gee’s idea because, if this were true there would be no secondary Discourses or places to learn and engage in a Discourse at the same time. For example, college’s people are learning and being part of their Discourse even though they are not yet masters.

“X’s claim that __ rests upon the questionable assumption that __.” (They say I say 58)

“I’m hoping that if you learn to tweak this little bit, it could significantly change the way your life unfolds.” (.047)

I disagree with Cuddy’s idea here because, you can’t change your whole life just by holding yourself a different way or pretending to fake you know something to success. You must also change your mindset, which is what Cuddy is missing in her argument.

I think the following template can help me express where I stand in relation to Cuddy:

By focusing on ___, X overlooks the deeper problem of ___.”(They say I say 58)

Agree, with a Difference ” However, someone cannot engage in a Discourse in a less than fully fluently manner. You are either in it or you’re not.” (9)

I agree that you need to engage in Discourses in a fluent manner, however, I do not believe you have to be fully fluent, that you can be new and still fully participate in the Discourse.

“While X is probably wrong when she claims that__, she is right that___.” (They say I say 64)

“I’m hoping that if you learn to tweak this little bit, it could significantly change the way your life unfolds.” (.047)

I agree that you need to change your body language so that it is open and confident for people to, think you can join a new Discourse, however, I disagree that it will change your life.

“Though I concede that___, I still insist that___.” (They say I say 64)
