- Where are you already working pretty well with Gee’s concepts? How, specifically, will you apply that more solid engagement to a specific paragraph that is not yet working so effectively with Gee (or Haas, or another text in play)?
I am working well with Gee in my body paragraphs when I am talking about his building tasks, I an comparing a specific building task to Haas, I am using connections and how it is important in a scientific discourse to make connections while, reading, writing and other interactions. I need to work on improving Gee in my second body paragraph, when I discuss the building task of relationships, I am not effectively engaging with Nair and Nair with Gee.
- Where are you doing a pretty good job bringing in pieces of language to illustrate or support a point you’re making about how science Discourse works? Why is that working well? (Try to say what you’re doing that’s working!)
I am doing a good job in using good language to demonstrate how a science discourse works in my first body paragraph, where I discuss signs and systems that are used in Nair Nair when they talk about the discourse in writing a scientific article. What I am doing that is working is that I use language that would be used in an analysis of scientific discourse.
- Turn to a paragraph that is not working so effectively with material from your artifacts. What do you need in that paragraph if it’s to become more effective?
My second body paragraph is not working well, because I do not have my thoughts organized, nor do I have good sentence structure when I am introducing the quotes and when I am discussing the quote.
- Write 2-3 sentences that capture what you believe your analysis tells us about science Discourse. These sentences will help you identify your perspective on how science Discourse works, which will help you revise your introduction and possibly the conclusion!
I believe my analysis of scientific Discourse is demonstrating that there are key points in the discourse that everyone needs to follow, which is the building tasks of signs and systems, practice, relationships, and connections. These can be demonstrated in Haas the IMRAD, and Nair Nair, in my essay I discuss their relationships and how they play a role in the scientific discourse.
